Derwick has worked in local government for 34 years including more than 20 years in leadership positions. Most recently, he retired from Wake County, North Carolina as the Chief Community Health and Economic Vitality Officer, a Deputy County Manager role. Previously, he had retired from the City of Winston-Salem where he worked for 14 years serving as Assistant/Deputy City Manager. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administrative Justice from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He is a graduate of the Municipal Administration program and the Public Executive Leadership Academy both sponsored by the UNC-School of Government. During his career, Derwick served as a Public Safety Officer, Planner, Minority and Women Business Enterprise Coordinator, Budget Analyst, Development Director, Assistant, and Deputy City Manager.
