Chief Kerr Putney is a Senior Consultant with Developmental Associates. He served as Chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC police agency from 2015-2020 when he retired. He began his career with the agency as a sworn officer in 1992 where he held a variety of patrol, training, and specialized assignments at various ranks within the organization. Chief Putney was instrumental in building upon the philosophy of community policing and effective problem-solving throughout the Charlotte area. He attended the 217th Session of the FBI National Academy in 2004 and attended the 42nd Session of the Senior Management Institute for Police in 2009. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s degree in criminal justice from East Carolina University.
